The Office of International Student Services offers support and services for internationals, including frequently asked questions, required forms, and the visa process. International students can also visit the International Student Services Web site for information concerning funding opportunities.
The Office of English Programs for Internationals is also available for students who desire English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction.
English is the language of instruction for all graduate programs and international students are expected to be proficient in English. Prior to full enrollment in a specific program, admitted students whose native language is not English are required to take an English diagnostic test administered by the English Program for Internationals (EPI) center on the University of South Carolina campus. The results of this test and an interview with a member of the EPI staff will be used to validate the student's level of English language proficiency. Based upon this evaluation, a course of study will be recommended for those students who have demonstrated inefficiencies in oral communication and/or reading skills. Those students are required to begin the recommended English course during their first semester of graduate study in the Moore School and complete the course by the end of their second semester.
International applicants whose native language is not English are also required to submit a satisfactory score on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) International Academic Course Type 2 exam. Information concerning English proficiency exams can be viewed by clicking on the TOEFL and IELTS links.
