Student Stories
Christine Hauer is a student who has explored the many dimensions of the Darla Moore School of Business. Christine is a senior who is triple majoring in international business, marketing, and global supply chain management with a minor in German. She has been very active in the Moore School, has traveled to Brazil and Germany, and has taken faculty-led study abroad courses in Africa and China.
While in Africa, her class met with small business owners, international organizations like the World Food Program and non-profits like Sky, an after-school program for underprivileged children in Soweto, South Africa. The students also experienced safaris, beach trips, and concerts while combining the culture and local flavor with governmental policy and business practices. Her trip to China was centered around a course on entrepreneurship in China. During the course, Christine and her classmates visited and researched Chinese businesses, incubators, and financial institutions. They also took field trips to the Olympic Stadium and the Great Wall of China.
Traveling to China as a freshman was one of the best decisions I've made. I experienced their intense history and culture firsthand, seeing local jade sculptors and an acrobatic show! Touring a medical supply company and meeting with an international consulting firm, gave me a glimpse as to how business operates and how it differs from the U.S.” - Christine Hauer
Christine is president of the Moore School’s Net Impact chapter, which was formed in 2002. Net Impact supports three principles in business: 1) green initiatives, 2) corporate responsibility, and 3) economic development in developing countries. The group is exploring future projects that may include an energy audit of the business school and a comprehensive recycling program, as well as community involvement in local schools. Christine participated on the Women’s Volleyball and Track and Field teams and is also a member of APICS (Association for Operations Management) and Beta Gamma Sigma.
Following in her footsteps, her younger brother Patrick will be joining the Moore School as a freshman in fall 2010. Christine will be participating in the Master of International Business (MIB) program starting in fall 2010. Upon receiving her Master’s degree, Christine plans to live in New York City and work with an international organization.
