Funding is anticipated for all entering Ph.D. students. All entering students are expected to have a research or teaching assistantship which comes with a competitive stipend. In addition to the stipend, students receive a 100% tuition supplement and 100% insurance subsidy to help defray expenses. More information is available on graduate assistantships.
Costs listed below are estimates for one calendar year Housing: $6,100 Estimate is based on one student sharing a two bedroom apartment with one other person for one calendar year. Books: $900 Estimate is based on supplies for one year. Food: $3,200 Students may choose to purchase a prepaid meal plan to eat at University dining facilities. The full-meal plan (21 meals per week) costs $2,100 per academic year. For students living on or off campus, estimated expenses for one calendar year are $3,000. Dependent Family Members: For students who will be accompanied by family, the estimated costs to support these dependents for one year are $2,500 for the spouse and $1,000 for each child. Personal Expenses: $2,500 These expenses include routine medical and dental costs, clothes, laundry, transportation, recreation, and personal expenses. Additional Fees
Enrollment Fee: International students enrolling at the University of South Carolina must pay a one-time enrollment fee of $500. This fee is usually assessed during the first semester and is automatically added to your bill. Matriculation Fees: A one-time, nonrefundable matriculation fee of $50 is assessed to all degree seeking students. Technology Fee: $200 per semester ($17 per credit hour).
