Homeland Security

The U.S. Department of Education and the Centers for International Business Education and Research are engaged in various activities supporting Homeland Security - an "Invitational Priority" during the recent CIBER Grant Proposal submission round.

Activities

  CIBER Homeland Security Booklet (PDF)
The SC CIBER is lead-managing the Homeland Security priority for all 31 CIBERs for the next four years, and one of the first tasks involved was the publication of the CIBER Homeland Security Booklet which outlines all CIBER activities in the area of "National Security and Economic Competitiveness" from October 2006 through September 2010.

IMBA Arabic Language Track
Instituted in 2005-2006, the International MBA (IMBA) Program Arabic Language Track offers a 29-34 month course of instruction consisting of five phases, to including 18 months overseas studying the Arabic lanugue for a year and completing a six-months internship.

Faculty Research Grants
A total of $10K-$15K in CIBER funds are allocated annually for Homeland Security competitive reseach grants for University of South Carolina faculty and faculty of other partnerned institutions. CIBER Homeland Security Seminars and Conferences (PDF)
The SC CIBER is co-sponsoring, along with lead-managing University of Maryland CIBER , a series of annual Homeland Security seminars and conferences during the current four-year grant cycle. Remaining seminars and conferences are scheduled for spring and fall, 2009 and 2010.
