Biography

Carolyn S. Jones is Assistant Dean of the Undergraduate Division in the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina - Columbia . 

With the University since 1980, Dr. Jones served as Director of the Undergraduate Division from 1989 until being named Assistant Dean in 2003. She was co-recipient of the Outstanding Freshman Advocate Award in May 2003.  Dr. Jones has also been honored by election to Golden Key National Honor Society, Delta Sigma Pi, and Beta Gamma Sigma.  She received the NADA Ambassador of Global Learning Award in 1999 because of her strong support of the University’s international students.

Dr. Jones initiated and administered the Moore School first study abroad program to Teeside and Durham England, funded by the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER).  She also initiated and oversees the Moore School of Business' participation in The Consortium of Universities for International Studies in Italy offered through University of Kansas. Based on the Moore School's strong record in entrepreneurship, Dr. Jones established a student exchange program between Jonkoping International Business School in Sweden, known for its programs in entrepreneurship, and the Moore School of Business. 

Dr. Jones led the first Moore School of Business international service learning program to Romania in the summer of 2004. The program represented a collaboration between the Moore School of Business, the Sister Cities Program of the Columbia World Affairs Council, and the City of Cluj-Napoca, Romania .  Some 80 Romanian high school students in Cluj participated in a Business/English Immersion Camp designed to expose them to the world of business and also to provide an opportunity to practice conversational English skills.  Based on the success of the first- ever Camp, the Romanian hosts have invited the Moore School of Business students to return.

A graduate of the University of Georgia (bachelor of science degree) and the University of South Carolina (master's and doctorate), Dr. Jones began her career in education in the Atlanta public schools. Later, she received a Reynolds Fellowship in Economics at the University of North Carolina for the study of economic education.

Dr. Jones' academic honors include election to Phi Kappa Phi.  She has served on numerous committees at the University of South Carolina, including service as Chair of the Assistant and Associate Dean’s Council. She has published papers and made presentations on topics related to academic advising and administration.  Dr. Jones values community service and has participated in numerous events, including the Habitat for Humanity Build-A-Thon and walks for breast cancer and leukemia. She has many professional affiliations, including the National Association of Academic Affairs Administrators and the National Association of Academic Advisors.
