All IMBA students must have a notebook PC. The computing environment in the Moore School
includes the use of Microsoft Windows XP operating system and Microsoft Office 2007.
For students who already have a notebook PC, the machine must be operating Windows Vista or
XP, be able to use a wireless network card (802.11B/G standard), and have Microsoft Office 2007.
(The Office Suite should contain at least Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Some IT and Accounting
electives may require Access.) A functioning notebook PC meeting these requirements will
be sufficient.
If you are going to purchase a new notebook PC, we suggest buying one of the following
brands:
- Apple (see separate specifications below)
A new notebook PC (non-Apple) should have the following minimum specifications:
- Dual Core Pentium or AMD processor
- Windows XP operating system or Vista operating system
- 80 GB Hard Drive (160 GB or greater recommended)
- Wired Ethernet Connectivity
- Wireless Card (802.11b/g standard)
- A modem may be needed if the student intends to use a dial-up Internet Service provider;
however, a high speed Internet connection is highly recommended.
- Service warranties are recommended since the Moore School does not provide service for student
computers. Extended three year service agreements are highly recommended.
- Academic discounts are available for software purchases. The
University of South Carolina Bookstore
and
Compusult offer student discounts. The
University of South Carolina's Technology Services
Software Division offers software to
the University community. Educational discounts are available on some software packages
to actively enrolled students.
The Apple notebook PC should have the following specifications:
- Windows Vista operating system with Parallels or Boot Camp software
- Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows
