Biography Dr. Melayne McInnes is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. She currently serves as the coordinator for the Economics Ph.D. and M.A. programs. Prior to joining the Moore School in 1997, she was a visiting assistant professor at Florida State University. She received her Ph.D. from Yale University in 1998, her M.S. in Economics from Florida State University in 1991, and her B.A. in Economics and Political Science with distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988. Her academic research interests are in economics of the health care industry, medical malpractice, the economic burden of smoking and obesity, experimental economics, and economics of insurance. Dr. McInnes has written articles on medical malpractice, health economics and behavioral choice appearing in journals such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Industrial Economics, Journal of Risk and Insurance, American Journal of Public Health, and Journal of Risk and Uncertainty. Dr. McInnes has received the following grants: She received USC's Mortar Board Teaching Award in 2004 and 1998. Dr. McInnes is the editor for the American Society of Health Economists Newsletter and has professional affiliations with the International Health Economics Association and the Economic Science Association.
