Brief job history: After graduating from Tulane University, I served in the
United States Peace Corps in Guatemala in municipal development. In the fall of 2002, I
returned home to South Carolina to begin the law portion of the University's JD/IMBA
joint degree curriculum. While attending law school and the Moore School, I clerked for a
handful of local law firms. I also interned for the SC Small Business Development Center and the
South Carolina Department of Commerce. Somewhee in there I also managed two successful State
Senate campaigns.
Following the bar, I began a one year term as judicial law clerk to the Honorable J. Ernest
Kinard, Jr, a 20-year veteran of the South Carolina Circuit Court. I worked as General
Counsel for Tomlin & Company, Inc., a multifaceted investment firm, before coming to the
Department of Commerce in March 2008.
Why I chose IMBA/JD: I was most interested in the IMBA/JD Program because it offered the chance to learn a third language and spend more time in Latin America. Further, the Moore School has a great reputation, and the right course work on one side of the joint degree program can really compliment the other.
Where I interned: My wife was pregnant with our first child at the time, so I only did a short stint in Brazil before returning to the states to work as a financial Analyst with Tomlin & Company, Inc.
What impacted me the most during the IMBA Program: Quality of the professors, Breadth of instruction, Focus on team learning.
How IMBA has added value to my career: The IMBA/JD degree has given me added career flexibility and a legal perspective at the business table.
Would I do the program again . . .without question!
