Brief job history:  I currently work at Sonoco Products of Hartsville, SC, where I am the Business Development Manager for the Cascades Sonoco Joint Venture.  During my 19-year career, 11 of which were spent abroad, I have had the good fortune of holding positions in marketing, sales and supply chain in the U.S. and Canada, Latin America and Southern Europe.

Some of my previous roles include:
- VP Marketing, Irwin, North America Power Tool Accessories (division of Newell Rubbermaid)
- Director of Marketing, Hilti Spain
- Professional Business Unit Manager, Black & Decker Italy
- Strategic Business Unit Manager - Professional Power Tools, Black & Decker Latin America

Why I chose IMBA: I had already worked three years in Costa Rica before returning to graduate studies.  I knew that business would only become increasingly global, and I wanted to get the best education I could to advance my career.  The quality of the program and the unique opportunity to learn an additional language (in my case, Italian) were decisive factors for me.

Where I interned:  My internship was with 3M Italy; Milan, Italy - Credit Department.  Understanding credit in any culture is fascinating, but having the opportunity to work in Italy was especially challenging and rewarding.

What impacted me the most during the IMBA Program: Academic rigor and international environment.  I was constantly challenged by the course work and excellent faculty.  The full-time nature of the program guaranteed that there was never a dull moment.  The international environment that permeated all of the social events ensured that my Spanish wife and I were able to feel very comfortable in Columbia, SC.

How IMBA has added value to my career: The program has been an integral part of my career.  My first position upon graduating was into an international management trainee program with Black & Decker.  And even today, I work within an international joint venture with Sonoco Products, in which I’m able to use my language and international skills.

Other thoughts:  If you want to further develop a global perspective, be challenged academically and work with fascinating people like yourself, look into the IMBA program at The Moore School at University of South Carolina.
