Louis Dessau serves as the Associate Director and the Internship Advisor for the Spanish and Portuguese language specialities of the International MBA Program. Since 1995, when he joined the Moore School of Business team, he has advised over 450 students on international assignments. Fluent in English, Spanish, French and his native Danish, he is operational in Portuguese.
Students attending USC have been able to benefit by having him as a lecturer with graduate and undergraduate courses on doing business in Latin America and in the introductory segment about the US Economic System for Fullbright Scholars attending English Programs for Internationals. Mr. Dessau coordinates relationships for the IMBA program with partner institutions abroad including Moscow State University, Universidad de Chile, ESCP-EAP, Fundacao Getulio Vargas/ISAE, ITESM, UPC, ESADE and ALIF. He led a group of students and faculty from the Professional Master of Sciences program on a field trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2004.
Louis brings with him significant practical international business experience. He was with Fluor's on-site finance department for a $500 million MPRA project in Venezuela. Later, an Export Manager with Kosan Crisplant and LPG manufacturer in Denmark where through extensive travel he negotiated contracts in France, Spain, Portugal, the Azores, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Trinidad, Curacao, Algeria, Nigeria and the Ivory Coast. Subsequently, he was responsible for marketing high tech medical equipment with Technomed in France where he improved distrbution agreements and negotiated special projects in The Canary Islands, Argentina, Mexico and Brazil. Responsible for international business development with Fiabila, a speciality chemicals company also based in France, he achieved entry into new markets in Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Turkey, Argentina and Spain. Significant achievements include, World Bank financed projects in Bolivia and Ghana, Coface guarantees for trade with Brazil, as well as setting up a joint venture in Mexico for a French firm.
ITESM in Guadalajara, Mexico, FGV in Curitiba, EXPOMANAGEMENT in Sao Paulo, the South Carolina Department of Commerce, and Alliance Francaise have received him as a guest speaker on issues relevant to doing business.
Mr. Dessau received a Bachelor of Science from Florida State University in 1980. At the ESCP-EAP in Paris, France, he earned a MBA and MS in European and International Business, Diplome accredite par la Conference de Grandes Ecoles in 1990.
Louis enjoys underwater photography, restoring old houses, participating with Habitat for Humanity, and his extensive international travels. Founder and president of The Nordic Club, he is also active with the Alliance Francaise of Columbia.
