Environment

Students will acquire this knowledge through a variety of learning experiences including the development of conceptual frameworks and theories, case studies, field projects, and in-depth research. Close working relationships and ongoing projects between students and faculty are encouraged. The MIS faculty consists of internationally renowned researchers in the field. Numerous awards and grants have been bestowed on faculty members, who have published over 150 research papers in leading MIS journals.

 

Research Focus

The MIS research at the University of South Carolina is facilitated and strengthened by the Center for Information and Technology Research (CIMTR). Research generally does not emphasize the further development of specific technologies such as expert systems, software engineering, or object-oriented programming. Rather, the program has as its primary focus the managerial, strategic, and organizational aspects of information resource management. Currently, faculty and doctoral student research is being conducted in the following areas:

Curriculum

The MIS area focuses on the analysis, design, and management of information systems to enhance organizational effectiveness. The MIS major area of emphasis includes the following MIS courses. At least six of these courses must be completed:

A background in programming and system analysis for the major area of emphasis in Management Information Systems is expected. The following courses and programming skills in the computer languages listed may be used to correct deficiencies:
