What it’s like to be a PMBA distance education student?
- PMBA students have access to support services that will make being a distance education student
easier.
- For quick access to the current student site, please click
here.
Manage the program online
- Access to e-mail and the Internet are essential tools for the PMBA program. Students may
register for classes, drop or add classes, and pay tuition and fees by using VIP, the University’s
Visual Information Processing site. Instructions for completing VIP registration and course
information are provided by the PMBA Office . The VIP site can be found at
vip.sc.edu.
- The PMBA class is a different experience. For students attending on the Columbia campus, they
will be sitting in a television studio classroom with the professor in the front of the room. At
the satellite-receiving locations, students will be viewing the professor on a television screen.
All rooms have microphones or telephone connections to allow live dialogue between the professor
and remote-location students, as well as allowing the students to hear each other.
- Questions after class can be directed to the professor by e-mail. Faculty have their course
syllabi and other materials available for students online. Students who must miss a weeknight
(Saturday classes are not normally televised) class can make use of the video streaming option,
which provides a digital archive of the class and also allows review for better understanding.
Support facilities
- PMBA students have full access to the same University and Moore School facilities as all the
full-time master’s students. These facilities include the James C. Self Computer Center on the
first floor of the business school, the Elliott White Springs Library on the second floor of the
business school, and the Thomas Cooper Library on the Columbia campus.
- Moore School alumni use the Moore School Alumni Online Community with its news board, alumni
database, and graduate list servs to stay in touch with MBA alumni groups after graduation. If you
are already a Moore School alum, register by going to the
Moore School Alumni portion of this site.
- PMBA students have access to the physical education facilities, theatre and music performances,
and sporting events at student fee and ticket rates after paying a small University athletic event
fee. Fees are listed online at
www.sc.edu/bulletin/grad/GFees.html.
What our students and alumni say about us
-
"My purpose for returning to school is twofold: personally, I want to set a goal and achieve
it, and professionally, I want to be ready for opportunities that present themselves. The PMBA is a
very good program, and I’m confident that when I get out, I will have a well-respected degree. I
like the flexibility. The online capability has been extremely beneficial. It gives me another
option if I can’t get to class and participate. And, the professors have been very accessible. With
the program geared toward people working a 40-hour week, all considerations have been made to
accommodate busy lives."

"The PMBA program at USC has a good reputation. It has given me the opportunity to attend a
large university and work at the same time, without compromising either role. I’ve been very
pleased with the PMBA program. The program’s flexibility makes it attractive to the working
professional. When business travel interferes with a class, you have the opportunity to view the
class later on the Web. Also, the professors are understanding and will work with you if there are
conflicts with work and test dates. The networking opportunity has been wonderful. The people I’ve
been in class with here [in Greenville] come from all the major corporations in this area – GE,
Fluor Daniel, Michelin, and BMW. You get a perspective on what’s going on in other
corporations."
