Olin S. Pugh, distinguished professor emeritus of banking and finance, retired from the Moore School of Business in 1987 and taught part-time for several years thereafter. After earning his B.S. degree with honors from the Moore School in 1948 and subsequent masters and Ph.D. degrees from Duke University, he began teaching in Moore’s Department of Economics in 1949. Pugh became a full professor in 1961 and was awarded the Chair in Banking, sponsored by the South Carolina Bankers Association. His University duties included serving as the second chairman of the USC Senate and establishing the SC Bankers School. Pugh was Acting Dean of the Moore School in 1966-67 and Director of Graduate Studies at Moore from 1967 to 1971. From 1971 to 1978, he was director of the school’s Division of Research. Pugh helped to establish the MBA-ETV program (now known as the Professional MBA), as well as the Moore School’s Ph.D. program in Economics. He is past president of the Southern Finance Association, the USC Credit Union, and the USC chapter of the American Association of University Professors. |
