Rafael Urquidi (BS ’01), 27, is a
young man with a big job. He and his partners, (both in their 30s and with Wharton MBAs) manage $1
billion in assets for Credit Suisse First Boston. As Associate with Private Client Services in the
company’s Miami, Florida, office, Urquidi is responsible for clients across Latin America.
Urquidi returned to the Moore School April 12 at the invitation of the Global Business
Council to speak to undergraduates about his job with Credit Suisse and how he got there, beginning
with his undergraduate pursuits, and about the current global business environment. He also
encouraged students to look for a job that they enjoy, “that requires passion and inspiration.”
Coincidentally, Urquidi found an entry into his career while still a student when he went to
hear Moore graduate Dave Armstrong (MBA ’99), also with Credit Suisse, speak to undergraduates.
Armstrong put him in touch with the manager of the company’s Miami office. That led to his first
job as an analyst. Urquidi left for a two-year stint with UBS investment firm before returning to
Credit Suisse in October 2005 as an associate.
A native of La Paz, Bolivia, Urquidi first learned about USC because he had friends on the
soccer team. He liked the beautiful campus, the “laid back” city, and the friendly people, and
decided to attend the Moore School. A marketing major when he began, Urquidi tried a finance class
and decided he liked that more. He double majored in finance and economics and minored in French
while at USC.
