Business Employer Summit 2007 a Success

The Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina hosted its inaugural Employer Summit on May 22, 2007. The Graduate Career Management Office (GCMO) invited representatives of major corporations to experience the Moore School’s Professional Development Series and to engage with faculty in a panel discussion that covered curriculum, employers’ competency needs, hiring trends and more.

The attendees represented Eaton Corporation, ExxonMobil Corporation, GE Healthcare, FedEx Corporation, Western Union, BB&T, Target Corporation, Bank of America, Resurgent Capital Services and International Paper.

The Moore School’s Professional Development Series is credited with nearly doubling the job placement rate for International MBA graduates between 2002 and 2006. The Series is founded on The Birkman Method assessment instrument, which is used to guide each student's leadership development and career planning initiatives.

Through the exchange of information and discussions of best practices, the GCMO learned how the Moore School can better serve the needs of employers and how to better prepare students, in and out of the classroom, to succeed upon graduation.

Based on this year’s success, the GCMO expects next year’s Employer Summit to be a larger affair. The 2007 Employer Summit was held in the Moore School of Business on the University of South Carolina Columbia campus.
