Bearden inducted into Alpha of Mortar Board

William O. "Bill" Bearden Dr. William O. “Bill” Bearden, Bank of America Chaired Professor of Marketing, was inducted into the Alpha of the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society this spring during a ceremony at the Rutledge Chapel on the USC Horseshoe.  He was guest speaker at the event, and was inducted along with 29 rising University of South Carolina seniors from across the campus.

Bearden is the sole Moore School faculty member who belongs to the honor society, which recognizes select undergraduate students for outstanding scholarship, leadership, and service. “It’s quite rare to induct a faculty member,” said Lucille Mould, “but Bill has done so much for students over the years.” Mould, senior instructor in USC’s Department of Languages, Literature, and Cultures, is faculty advisor for Mortar Board on campus.

Bearden, who received his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in 1975, was cited by Mortar Board at the induction ceremony for his “distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service.”

He is a recipient of the USC Amoco Teaching Award that is presented annually to one faculty member.  He has twice been awarded the Alfred G. Smith Teaching Award – the highest teaching award from the Moore School of Business, and is a four-time recipient of the Mortar Board Teaching Award.  Bearden is also a recipient of the Outstanding MBA Teacher Award, the Michael J. Mungo Undergraduate Teaching Award, a USC Educational Foundation Research Award, and a Carolina Trustee Professorship Award.
