The economics department at the Moore School of Business is highly ranked in terms of research productivity per faculty member, coming in 39th out of 129 U.S. economics departments with doctoral programs, according to a recent ranking. And, in terms of overall research productivity among all U.S. economics departments with doctoral programs, Moore ranked 73rd, ahead of the University of Georgia (74th) and Virginia Tech (75th) but below Clemson (66th).
The rankings are from an article by Therese Grijalva and Clifford Nowell that appeared in the April 2008 issue of the Southern Economic Journal. The rankings are based on publication activity over the 1985-2004 period for faculty who were members of departments in 2004.
Separate rankings were also performed for publications within fields of economics. Moore’s labor economics program ranked 16th among all schools in labor economics. The next-highest rankings for the Moore School were 48th in health, education, and welfare, and 58th in international economics.
