Sixteen business executives from Mexico have completed the first year of the new Executive International IMBA (EIMBA) program, offered jointly by the Moore School of Business and Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Guadalajara, Mexico. The latter, popularly known as Tec de Monterrey, is one of Mexico’s top universities. The program was launched in August 2004.
“It’s going very well,” said Libby Shropshier, program coordinator. The 20-month program is aimed at senior Mexican managers in their 30s and 40s who continue to work while earning their degrees. The class members, who will graduate in May 2006, will earn two degrees: an EIMBA from USC, and a Meastria en Administracion from Tec de Monterrey.
“When I heard about this program …, I knew it was right down my alley: a dual master’s program, validated both in the United State and Mexico, which is very important for me,” said Eduardo Rojo, 38, vice president of business development for Corporate Properties of the Americas in Guadalajara. “It’s a program with international exposure and U.S-based educational standards, validated in both countries.”
Diego Milan (Peniche), 32, controller for a precision molding injection company in Guadalajara, says having the dual degree “will be really good for me because for the last ten years I have worked for several international companies … I’m studying something that will really help me, not just give me a frame on my office wall.”
Industries represented in the inaugural EIMBA class include electronics manufacturers, a hotel chain, a commercial real estate company, telecommunications, computer training, and food/beverage producers.
After the opening week in Columbia last August, classes were taught in Guadalajara every third weekend, utilizing both Moore School and Tec de Monterrey faculty.
Class members will participate in a one-week summer session in July at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration in Vienna, Austria. Moore School officials hope to recruit a class of 30 for this year’s class, which begins in August.
