Emilia-Alina
Lup, International Relations Officer for the City of Cluj-Napoca,
Romania, is in Columbia for a three-month visit (February-April), continuing a
relationship with the Moore School of Business begun last summer. Her visit was
spurred by the first-ever Business
English Immersion Camp
for Cluj high school students led by staff and undergraduate business students
in July 2004. Ms. Lup is pictured at left with Dr. Carolyn Jones, assistant
dean for the undergraduate division.
Lup is helping to prepare
the group of USC students – eight undergraduate business and eight liberal arts—
who will lead the Global Issues English Immersion Camp this July in Cluj. In
addition, she is working through the World Affairs Council, the S.C. Export
Consortium, and the USC Technology Incubator to promote cultural exchange and
economic development opportunities between Cluj-Napoca and Columbia. Cluj-Napoca
has been named a sister city by the World Affairs Council of Columbia.
Below left, dressed in her native costume, Ms. Lup addresses undergraduates
about the fascinating history and culture of Romania.
