Moore undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni looking for a job or wanting to change careers have a new best friend: Lee Hecht Harrison (LHH), the country’s premier career services firm.
The Moore School is the first business school in the world that has been offered the services of Lee Hecht Harrison. The New Jersey-based firm began a partnership with the Moore School in September 2004 to provide outplacement, leadership development, executive coaching, and career development assistance.
Finding – and keeping – the right career in business has become more challenging in the past decade or two, say experts, and so Moore is helping its students and graduates stay on the leading edge.
LHH has more than 180 offices worldwide. Its services to
undergraduate and graduate students are offered on site at Moore. “We see the
Lee Hecht Harrison staffers as an extension of our staff,” said Jane Willis,
director of Moore’s Graduate Career Management Office.
LHH services are free to graduate students. Undergraduate students are charged a nominal fee. Alumni can access LHH’s Web site services at no charge by registering for Moore’s Alumni Online Community.
Classes taught by LHH personnel include how to create an individual marketing plan to secure employment, job search techniques, advanced networking and interviewing skills, and how to negotiate the strongest salary and benefits package. Students are also given access to LHH’s Career Resource Network Web site, which includes more than 1 million employer profiles and other industry-related information that is useful in researching potential new employers. In addition, graduate students can receive one-on-one coaching from LHH and Moore School staff.
Moore alumni can access LHH services online at no cost. For individualized personal help from LHH experts (usually at an LHH office near you), a fee is charged. The LHH site “is a great global networking tool,” said Pat Hanly, director of Graduate Alumni Relations. The site provides step-by-step help in job search techniques, including resume preparation, marketing oneself, interviewing, and negotiating salaries and benefits.
The LHH Web site also offers an “online career coach” (an LHH expert who will respond to e-mail queries), and a toll-free number for one-on-one career coaching questions.
