The first recipient of the new S. Travis Pritchett
Scholarship is
Jonathan P. Boyd, a junior at the Moore School of Business majoring in
international business and finance, with a special focus on investing.
The scholarship was established by John Harloe (MBA ’75) to honor Dr. Pritchett, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Finance and Insurance. Pritchett taught the first class that Harloe took in the business school. Today, Harloe is small cap portfolio manager at Barrow, Hanley, Mewhinney & Strauss.
The scholarship supports undergraduates interested in a career in investments. The gift is being matched by financier Darla Moore, after whom the Moore School is named.
Boyd, a native of Lilburn, Georgia, is currently studying at the American Business School in Paris. Fluent in French, he studied last summer at the Institut de Touraine in Tours, France.
Boyd, who has a high GPA, is secretary of the Carolina Finance Club and a member of the Global Business Council and the Columbia World Affairs Council. A Capstone Scholar, he has been named to the Dean’s List or the President’s List each semester that he has been enrolled at the University of South Carolina.
He is also a McKissick Scholar, a George A. Brizzolara, Jr. Scholar, an Elizabeth Joiner Scholar for French Minors, and a Passport Grant Recipient.
