Women IMBA Students Shine at Case Competition

Five International MBA (IMBA) students from the Moore School of Business made it all the way to the semifinals of a Women MBAs case competition held Nov. 2 and 3 at the University of Maryland's College Park campus.  The competition, which involved 35 teams, was held in conjunction with a career fair and annual national conference sponsored by the National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA).

The Moore School team -- members of the Moore Graduate Women Association -- was composed of Stephanie Anderson (JD/first-year IMBA program), Tonisha Bell (second-year IMBA), Melissa Bias (first-year IMBA), Tara Loescher (second-year IMBA), and Emily Woods (second-year IMBA).  The Moore Graduate Women Association is affiliated with NAWMBA.

The Moore team prepared a brief on a specified topic (called "Hilti’s Culture Journey"); the brief propelled them into the semifinal round.  The Moore group was one of 12 teams chosen.

The Moore team was not selected for the final round, but "it was the first time we entered, so we think it was noteworthy," said Jane R. Willis, director of Moore’s Graduate Career Management Office who attended the case competition and the annual conference.

The NAWMBA facilitates networking for its members through speaker programs, regional and national conferences, and other activities such as career fairs.  The local Moore Graduate Women Association also promotes networking activities among female graduate students through organizing internship panels, establishing an alumni database, interacting with the local business community, and working with local philanthropy groups.

The Moore Graduate Women Association’s next event will be a Women’s Leadership Panel Discussion with senior-level women from the community, to be held in the Daniel Management Center on the 8th floor of the Moore School of Business at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29.  A reception will follow.
