About the class of 2006

Success at Moore Runs in Two Families

Nada Sultan came a long way - all the way from Oman - to complete a business education at the Moore School, and to do so in style with a GPA of 3.8 and a double major in marketing and management. But she was only following in the footsteps of her sister Noora Sultan, who graduated with honors in 2003. Noora learned of the business school through Oman's Ministry of Higher Education and was attracted to Moore's management information systems program. She recommended the business school to her younger sister.

Nada's sister, mother, and brother traveled from Oman to attend her graduation and the honors cording ceremony held May 5. Noora accepted a position with BanK Muscat, one of Oman's largest banks, after graduation, and Nada, too, plans to return to Oman. Both Sultan sisters are planning to pursue graduate degrees in the future.

Likewise, Alejandra Pacheco of La Paz, Bolivia, had role models in her brothers, Rodrigo and Pablo. Rodrigo and Pablo both  hold finance degrees from USC. Rodrigo works for Bank of America in

Charlotte, N.C., and Pablo works for the Brazilian company, Natura, in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Alejandra is graduating this May with honors and a double major in international business and finance and a minor in Italian. She plans to move to Washington, D.C., to work after graduation. Her mother traveled from Bolivia to attend the graduation.

Brainy and Athletic

USC tennis player, Tom Eklund, of Hollviken, Sweden, was the winner of multiple awards at this year's student Awards Day held April 20. Eklund received the Inspiration Award from the USC Athletics Department, was named Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and was awarded a SEC H. Boyd McWhorter Postgraduate Scholarship. He is a finance major.

Tracey Richardson of Essex, England, was also received the SEC H. Boyd McWhorter Award. She capped off her academic career with an impressive 3.9 GPA and a double major in management and finance. This accomplishment is made more impressive by the fact that she has been a top diver for the USC Swim Team (she was SEC champion on the three-meter board in 2003) and represented Great Britain at the 2004 Olympics, where she placed 28th in the three-meter springboard competition.

Only Getting Better

"These students are representative of the caliber of student and the internationality we have in our undergraduate program," said Dr. Carolyn Jones, assistant dean of the undergraduate division.

Among its 497 graduates, the business school celebrated 182 honor graduates this year, including seven Summa Cum Laudes. Students are from countries as diverse as Bolivia, Moldova, South Korea, Sweden, and Vietnam.
