Moore School student Joshua Rabon won second place in his oral presentation section, "Business, Law and Politics," at the University of South Carolina’s Discovery Day on April 25.  This is an annual event where undergraduates in any and all disciplines can present their research and scholarship.

DDay_RabonRabon, an accounting major and Magellan Scholar, presented his work titled "Corporate Governance and Return on Capital Expenditures," related to his examination of the "effect of governance on executives and 'empire building' behavior."  Rabon's faculty advisor is Dr. Marcus Caylor, assistant professor of accounting.

Undergraduate Greg Forman, a finance major, also participated in Discovery Day and, along with his co-researcher Allick Inglis, a civil engineering major, presented their poster titled "Moving Toward the Future" - referring to their research of energy-generating wind turbines off the coast of South Carolina.  Their faculty mentor is Dr. Michael Meadows, civil and environmental engineering.

Students participating in Discovery Day have the opportunity to make poster, oral, creative, or artistic presentations, as well as visual art displays.  The first Discovery Day was held in 2003.

Cash awards are given in each section.  More than $9,000 in awards was given this year, according to Julie Morris, director of USC’s Office of Undergraduate Research.
