Daniel Perlmutter, a first-year International MBA (IMBA)
student, is the first recipient of a $500 Robin Emery Memorial Business Scholarship.
The scholarship was created in memory of Robin Emery, a former IMBA student who died prior to
completing her degree, by her classmates, the IMBA Class of 2004. Because of Emery's interest in
non-governmental organizations and economic development in the poorer countries, the scholarship
was created to assist IMBA students who want to pursue internships with NGOs. Unlike other
internships, NGO internships usually offer little or no stipend.

Perlmutter is currently on internship with Friends of the Earth in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The scholarship is open to all IMBA students engaged in an internship in economic development
who maintain good academic standing. Eligible students compete for the award by completing a
500-word essay. This year's topic was "The Role of Technology in Economic Development," comparing
and contrasting the views of Nicholas Negroponte and Bill Gates regarding the "One Laptop Per
Child" initiative.

Dalton, interning with WorldVision in Federal Way, WA; Michael Doherty, interning with Sebrae
in Curitiba, Brazil; David Holmes, interning with the U.S. Department of Commerce in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil.
