Seniors Speak to Undergraduates About Opportunities Abroad


"Internationalizing the Undergraduate Degree: A Student Forum" was held October 21 to highlight for undergraduates the benefits of experiences abroad

The event featured Moore School seniors who together have garnered a remarkable array of study abroad, service, and internship experiences:

Lauren Anderson has primarily traveled and studied in Asia, including China and the Philippines. She also traveled to Malaysia this past summer, where she participated in a South East Asian Leadership Network (SEALnet) project to raise awareness of the importance of conserving the environment in the city of Kota Kinabalu, the capital of (Malaysian state) Sabah. A senior and a member of the University of South Carolina Honors College, Anderson is seeking a double major in international business and marketing and a minor in journalism.

Lucas Fox’s study abroad experiences include Spain and China. In addition, he traveled to Colombia, South America, in 2007 with a Witness for Peace (WFP) delegation to examine the possible impact of the proposed U.S.-Colombian Free Trade Agreement on the Colombian people. A senior and a member of the University of South Carolina Honors College, Fox is pursuing a double major in international business and investment finance and a minor in Spanish.

UG-10-21-08_59Andy Schwark’s study abroad experiences have been in Africa, Japan, and Romania. He also worked this past summer in the former Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan as an intern with the Columbia, S.C.-based Center for Global Strategies. His team has researched ways in which American business can help Azerbaijan achieve developmental goals and diversify its foreign investments, while maintaining American standards of integrity. A senior and a member of the University of South Carolina Honors College, Schwark is completing a triple major in international business, corporate finance, and global supply chain management. He is also seeking a double minor in French and Japanese.

UG-10-21-08_72Jordan Terefencko participated in the Summer 2008 Global Business Immersion Camp, a program begun by the Moore School in 2004 in which a team of Moore School students teach Romanian high school students business skills and enhance cultural understanding. A senior majoring in corporate finance and minoring in fashion merchandising, Terefencko also studied for a semester at the American Business School in Paris.

UG-10-21-08_77Stephen Wright’s study abroad experiences include teaching, internship, and language study in China. He also traveled to Abu Dhabi in February 2007 for an Education Without Borders conference, a meeting of 1,000 students from around the world to dialogue about global social challenges and, more importantly, to commit to positive change. Wright is seeking a double major in international business and investment finance, and a double minor in French and Chinese.
