About 40 female graduate students enrolled in master’s level programs at the Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina, attended a reception Feb. 2 at the home of Dean Joel A. Smith III. The reception was sponsored by the Moore School Association of Women MBAs, an organization that is affiliated with the National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA).
Female faculty and staff also attended the reception.
“We facilitate the networking process for our members through speaker programs, regional and national conference attendance, and other activities such as career fairs,” said Manuela Schwab, (pictured left) an International Master of Business (IMBA) student who will graduate in May of 2006. Schwab is president of the Moore chapter of the Women MBAs.
The organization also promotes networking activities among graduate students through organizing internship panels, establishing an alumni database, and interacting with the local business community. In addition, the chapter is involved in local philanthropy.
“We emphasize women in business, and we also want to let more prospective women students know about the Moore School,” said Schwab, who after graduation will become a business analyst with Russell Investment Group based in Tacoma, Washington. Schwab is a native of Germany.
Moore students who belong to the women’s organization include graduate students enrolled in the IMBA program, the Master of Human Resources program, and the Master of Accounting program. The chapter also has 70 alumni worldwide.
The faculty adviser for the organization is Dr. Curba M. Lampert, assistant professor of management. Staff adviser is Jane R. Willis, director of Graduate Career Management.
