Moore School moves up in Financial Times ranking


The Financial Times of London has ranked the Moore School of Business, and its International MBA program, No.1 for best "International Experience" in its 2008 MBA ranking. The University of South Carolina is the only U.S. school ranked in the top ten of this category.

The Moore School continues to be highly regarded on the world stage for its international business education. The school placed 2nd in the "Best in International Business" list, behind only Thunderbird School of Global Management. That makes Moore School 1st among public institutions in this category, based on alumni recommendations.

In its overall MBA ranking, the Financial Times now places the Moore School 55th in the world for its master's programs – up from 72nd in the 2007 ranking. This year the school's MBA programs rank 25th among U.S. universities, placing the Moore School ahead of such institutions as George Washington University, the University of Texas-Austin, and the University of Notre Dame.

"We are very pleased with the Moore School's rankings, especially regarding the international experience gained by our students," said Dean Hildy Teegen. "It is clear that our efforts to maintain and to advance our place among business schools around the world are being recognized."

The Financial Times rankings take into account a number of criteria, grouped into three main areas: alumni salaries and career development, the diversity and international reach of the business school and its MBA programs, and the research capabilities of each school. The newspaper surveys graduates three years after they have completed their degree to assess the effect of the MBA on their subsequent career progression and salary growth.

To be eligible for the ranking, a business school must be internationally accredited by a body such as the AACSB International - The Association for Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business. A total of 156 business schools met criteria for participation this year, of which, 100 were shown in final rankings.

Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina has more than 3,900 students in its undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs. Founded in 1919, Moore School has achieved international recognition through innovative program development and quality research conducted by its faculty.
