USC’s Professional MBA Program Expanding to Charlotte
The Professional Master of Business Administration (PMBA) program at the University of South
Carolina’s Moore School of Business will open a location in Charlotte, North Carolina, in fall
2006.
An information session held two years ago in Charlotte revealed a strong interest among
Charlotte professionals in the Moore School’s PMBA program. “The Moore School of Business’
international ranking and the fact that PMBA courses are taught by the International MBA program
faculty are important to prospective students,” says Libby Shropshier, Marketing Manager, PMBA
Program. Charlotte area professionals in the past have had to commute to York Technical College in
Rock Hill to attend PMBA classes via distance learning. The exact location in Charlotte will be
announced next month pending contract negotiations.
The PMBA program is designed for working professionals who want to earn a USC MBA and
continue to work. Evening classes are broadcast live to remote locations, where students can
interact with professors via interactive audio equipment. Students also attend some Saturday
classes in Columbia during the course of the semester. For the busy professional, classes are
available through streaming video two hours after broadcast. An undergraduate degree in business is
not required and there are no prerequisite courses.
Established in 1970, the Professional MBA program was the first of its kind in the United
States. Utilizing technology such as Web browsers, interactive audio, and satellite transmission
keeps the PMBA program at the forefront of convenient, but quality distance education for business
professionals.
In addition to earning an MBA degree from a top-notch business school, PMBA students at the
Moore School find the networking opportunities with other professionals in their program are
invaluable. Students in the PMBA represent diverse industries as well as branches of the Armed
Forces. Bank of America, BellSouth, BlueCross and BlueShield of S.C., General Electric,
International Paper, John Deere, Michelin, SCANA, and Sonoco are among the companies represented by
Moore School PMBA students.
