The Moore School of Business Builds on International Strengths With Updated Master's Program

COLUMBIA, SC – To focus most effectively on its core strength in international business education, the Moore School of Business offers an updated master's program – the International Master of Business Administration (IMBA) – which began in May 2002.

"By taking our Master of International Business Studies (MIBS) to the next generation and improving upon our traditional MBA program, we can offer a curriculum that best equips and deploys students into today's global job market," says Dean Smith. "At the same time, our revised program will enhance our standing among top-tier public business schools across the country."

This updated International Master of Business Administration (IMBA) retains the best of MIBS – the five-month international internship and foreign language training – while integrating international material throughout the core curriculum. Rather than offering several different curricula, as was done in the past, under this program the Moore School of Business has focused on one core curriculum. Students will have a concentrated area of study such as finance, marketing, or information systems. All students pursuing an international master's will complete a five-month out-of-country experience, a unique feature of USC's international program. There will be three options: the Language Track which arms them with language skills in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese or Spanish; the Global Track which provides intensive course work in business practices and economies of all regions of the world; and the European Program, a unique partnership with Austria's most prestigious business school, the Wirtschaftuniversität Wien, in Vienna.

"This master's program culminates a disciplined and careful process in which we incorporated counsel and feedback from key recruiters, the business community, alumni and students," says Dean Smith. "We're confident that it's the right curriculum for the emerging world marketplace, and that it brands the Moore School of Business as the place to come for an advanced degree in international business."
