Upperclassmen Advisement Begins Monday, February 23
Advisement begins on Monday, February 23 for all upperclassmen not graduating in May 2009 who began at USC before Summer 2008. Your designated advisement day is determined by the first letter in your last name. The following is the Advisement schedule:

You must be advised or else a "hold" will be placed on your Fall 2009 registration.
Advisement for Freshmen and Transfers who began in Summer 2008, Fall 2008 or Spring 2009 begins on March 23. A postcard will be sent soon with assigned days. The dates will also be published on the web site.
General Advisement Information
The Undergraduate Advisement Office is located in Room 201 of the Moore School of Business. You can contact us by phone at (803) 777-2191. Below is information about the Advisement process:

Students are not assigned a specific advisor. They are encouraged to meet with different advisors and choose one that best suits their needs and personal style.

Advisors are available Monday through Friday. The Undergraduate Office is open from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., but the optimum times to meet with one of the Advisors are from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon and from 2:00p.m. - 4:15p.m.

Students are required to meet with an advisor during the formal advisement period before registration begins. Students will be notified by postcard of their advisement appointment time. Failure to be advised will result in registration after all other students have completed their registration.
How to make the most of your advising appointment.

If you prefer to see a particular advisor, let the receptionist know before taking a seat. We encourage students to see the advisor with whom they feel most comfortable.

Review the curriculum of your major program. Helpful sources of information include the
University Bulletin and sequence sheet.

Be familiar with the
Master Schedule . Also, be aware that we do send students reminders about advising. It's your responsibility to meet with an advisor during the advising period designated on the mailer you receive! Please remember to keep your mailing address current through the USC system.

Develop a written list of questions or topics to cover with your advisor.

Help your advisor help you. If you are having trouble with a specific course or all of them, be prepared to discuss this and be open to your advisor's suggestions for using the Academic Skills Center, Writing Center, or
Center for Business Communications .

Discuss courses for the upcoming semester and listen carefully to your advisor's recommendations. Keep in mind that many courses have prerequisites.

Ask questions about your progress toward meeting general education, major prerequisites, and major and minor requirements. Check your hours earned and take into account any inapplicable courses. Review your progress toward graduation.

Consider carefully the balance between your work responsibilities and your academic course load.

Discuss plans for graduate or professional school, or for beginning a career.

Be sure you have a completed advising form with your advisor's signature. Keep the white copy for your records.
