The opening concert of the 2017-2018 season showcases the versatility of the award-winning USC Wind Ensemble and its repertoire. The program pairs two masterpieces of the 19th century by Dvořák and Wagner with works by two of today’s leading composers, Cindy McTee and Kristin Kuster.

2018 USC Band Clinic
2018 marks the 40th year of the USC Band Clinic, an event that draws hundreds of young musicians from throughout the Southeast to the USC School of Music each year. The USC Wind Ensemble performance at this clinic is open to the general public and is always one of the most exciting concerts of the year.

The USC Wind Ensemble’s final performance of the season includes the premiere of a new saxophone concerto by composer Stacy Garrop as well as the premiere of a fascinating new work by USC’s own David Garner. Copland’s only original piece for wind band, Emblems, opens the program, and Ticheli’s jazz-inspired Blue Shades puts an exclamation mark on the season.
