The program includes
- Two private lessons a week
- Daily master classes with internationally known professors and performers
- Vocal pedagogy classes (for vocalists)
- Conversational German and Italian
- Daily student chamber music performances and professional concerts
- The opportunity to work with students from other universities and countries in performances and classrooms
- Learning and performing opera scenes (vocalists only)
- Optional travel to nearby cities like Venice, Verona and Salzburg for cultural and artistic experiences and performances (additional fee).
Students can network with other performers and teachers, and many have found graduate programs by working with teachers through this program. You will experience the life and culture of Europe where art has deep-rooted origins and appreciation.
Living arrangements
Students are housed in a double occupancy room in the small village of Vipiteno. All accommodations are located within easy walking distance of classrooms, academic facilities, entertainment, Eurorail train and community resources. Students share their room with other students. (Option for single room supplement is $920 or $980 if paid after February 20, 2016)
Travel dates
This two-week program takes place from July 3–17, 2016. Prior to departure, the group will meet on-campus in late spring. Those taking the vocal pedagogy credit are required to take a 12-session online course with completion in Vipiteno.
Costs
The program fee is $3700 for instrumentalists and $4450 for vocalists and includes:
Vocalists: Private lessons, language, yoga, master classes, performance classes, choir (if offered), opera scenes, vocal pedagogy class, piano accompaniment, practice room time, hotel room (shared if single room supplement is not paid), breakfast and dinner, certificate of course completion, festival concerts, use of facilities, festival t-shirt, and 24/7 support of USC faculty and staff in-country.
Instrumentalists: Private lessons or chamber music program (select your preference), chamber music group (if requested), master classes, performance classes, choir, orchestra and chamber orchestra, piano accompaniment, piano practice room time, hotel room (shared if single room supplement is not paid), breakfast and dinner, certificate of course completion, festival concerts, use of facilities, festival t-shirt and 24/7 support of USC faculty and staff in-country.
Fee does not include
USC tuition paid directly to USC, paid separately on my.sc.edu. Round trip airfare, transfer fees, local transportation (if needed), meals not on itinerary, personal expenses and optional activities are not included.
Application information
Non-refundable deposit of $500 is due January 15, 2016
Remainder paid in two payments due February 1, 2016 and February 15, 2016.
Payments after February15, 2016 must pay an additional $400.
Scholarships available
USC students applying for this program are eligible for awards:
- Passport Travel Grant, for Honors/Capstone students: deadline November 15
- Beyond Boundaries Award, for underrepresented students: deadline February 15
- Magellan Scholar or Mini-Grant Award, for undergraduate research: deadlines vary by award
- Walker Institute International Experience Award: deadline March 6
