Michael Galbreth

Biography Michael R. Galbreth is an Assistant Professor of Management Science at the Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina. Prior to returning to academia, Dr. Galbreth was a manager in the Atlanta office of KPMG Consulting. He received his Ph.D. in Operations Management from Vanderbilt University, and he currently teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in operations and decision analysis at the Moore School. He has also taught graduate courses at Vanderbilt University and Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien in Vienna, Austria. At the Moore School, Dr. Galbreth was voted the Outstanding 2nd Year Professor by the International MBA class of 2007 and the Outstanding Core Professor in the European Track by the International MBA class of 2008. Dr. Galbreth’s primary research interest is in the area of Sustainable Operations, with a focus on the acquisition, remanufacturing, and redistribution of used products (a set of processes collectively referred to as a closed-loop supply chain). He also conducts research in two other areas: supply chain modeling, and the interface between operations and information systems. Dr. Galbreth is frequently called by leading academic journals to serve as a referee for papers in these areas. His own research has been published in journals such as Production and Operations Management, Journal of Business Logistics, Journal of Management Information Systems, European Journal of Operational Research, Communications of the ACM, and Interfaces. Dr. Galbreth is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Decision Sciences Institute, INFORMS, and the Production and Operations Management Society, where he currently serves as Vice President of Membership for the College of Sustainable Operations.
