xMuse Experimental Music Studio

USC’s Experimental Music Studio, xMUSE, supports the creation of new music that exploits the resources of cutting-edge technology. Composers, performers, technical specialists and other creative artists come together to design musical experiences that require the interaction of humans and machines.

xMUSE is a laboratory for research in algorithmic composition, digital-signal processing, musical sonification and real-time interactive composition and performance. Students learn the theory and history of electroacoustic music and increase their knowledge and creative potential through a balanced program of creative research.

xMuse works in collaboration with the Southern Exposure New Music Series, the composition and recording arts programs and other units within the university to host concerts, residencies, and master classes by world class artists.

Computer Music Concert

USC’s Computer Music Concert is a showcase for computer music composition and research by USC students and faculty. Concerts feature the creative products of active research programs in interactive composition, performance and musical sonification. Experience the thrill of watching humans and machines collaborate in real time to create the music of the future.
