Marcelo Hazan

Brazilian-American musicologist Marcelo Campos Hazan is currently Adjunct Professor of Latin American Studies at the University of South Carolina (2013) and Associate Member of the Seminar on Brazil at Columbia University in the City of New York (2011).  He earned a Ph.D. in Historical Musicology from the Catholic University of America (1999), minoring in Latin American Music History, and taught Music History at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2001-2005) and Columbia University in the City of New York (2011-2012), where he was also appointed Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Latin American Studies (2009-2011).  In addition to presenting and publishing papers on the subjects of sacred music in colonial Brazil and primo ottocento opera, Dr. Hazan has participated in a range of music editorial and archival projects including the facsimile edition of the Rio de Janeiro cathedral manuscripts in 2005 and the critical edition of the complete songs of Gabriel Fernandes da Trindade (1799/1800-1854) in 2011.  He is currently preparing three entries for Grove Music Online by commission of Oxford University Press, as well as a hypertext edition of the complete works of Cândido Inácio da Silva (1799/1800-1838) under the sponsorship of the Brazilian National Library Foundation and the American Musicological Society.
